The Blades Victorious at Brammal Lane

Sheffield United beat Middlesbrough (2-1) to record their first victory at home in the EPL. The Blades, who were defending a corner kick, opened the scoring with a counter-attack, when striker Rob Hulse ran the length of the pitch in the 35th min., to get onto a square pass by Kazim-Richards and finish past the on-coming Boro keeper, Mark Schwarzer.

After wasting two golden chances, Gareth Southgate’s men finally leveled the scores in the 2nd half when striker Yakubu got a step on his defender, ran down a one-time clearance, and finished neatly to the back post.

Just as Southgate felt he had earned a humble point, Blades captain and defender, Jagielka cut out a clearance with a chest trap, which he pushed toward goal and finished, with a rasping front volley in the 90th min., past the desperate Schwarzer.

The pressure on the inexperienced manager, Southgate will start to boil as Middlesbrough are now just one slot above the drop zone, with the Blades just one spot beneath them.
